Rachel Cargle - Featured Womxn
Welcome to our very first Featured Womxn!
Our Featured Womxn Series is a collection of womxn who teach us, guide us, inspire us, make us laugh, make us cry - or all of the above. They are womxn who we are constantly talking about and we want to share them, their message and their lives with you.
Rachel Cargle is an academic, writer and lecturer. We first came across her work on Instagram, reading and re-reading each and every post. Her work centres around exploring the intersection of race and womanhood, and her teachings have opened our eyes. Rachel looks at feminism through the lens of race, and has taught us that we need to do the work. Rachel unapologetically holds white womxn accountable, and encourages them (us) to educate themselves, do the work, and take actions.
Since learning from Rachel, our conversations, actions and attitudes around feminism and race have changed dramatically.
Our first required reading we are recommending is the first in her Social Syllabus Series, entitled Dear White Women, A letter reminding modern white feminist of their relationship with black women throughout history., Written and Curated by Rachel E. Cargle.
